A two dimensional matrix of marks indicating match or mismatch of one or more search arguments with the value of data elements accessed from a field common with all records of a database file. The matrix of marks created after one pass through all the records of the file is searched for a specified pattern which identifies records where the data element values ,as between successive records, have a certain sequence as specified by the search arguments.

L'invention est une matrice bidimensionnelle de marques indiquant la correspondance ou la non correspondance d'un ou plusieurs arguments de recherche avec les valeurs d'éléments de données joints à partir d'un champ commun à tous les enregistrements d'un fichier de base de données. La matrice créée après un passage dans tous les enregistrements du fichier est explorée dans le cadre d'une recherche portant sur une configuration donnée qui identifie les enregistrements où les valeurs des éléments de données ont une certaine séquence spécifiée par les arguments de recherche, tel que la chose peut se produire entre enregistrements successifs.
