A projection system (300) includes a collimating lens group (312) for collimating an imaging beam (320). The collimating lens group (312) has an optical axis (328) that is de-centered with respect to the axis (322) of the imaging beam (320). Further, the optical axis (328) of the collimating lens group (312) forms a non-zero angle with the axis (322) of the imaging beam (320). The de-centered collimating lens group (312) enables the use of more conventional projection optics, without the unacceptable displacement of the projected image.
