ABSTRACT A deasher for a boiler having an ash hopper with a water immersible element depending from the hopper through which ash is discharged into water contained in a receiving trough. The trough is constructed with a first and a second section defined by a partition wall and there is means permitting lateral movement of the trough for aligning the lower end of the immersible element with one or other of the sections while clearing the upper edge of the partition wall. Means for lifting the trough is also provided for raising and lowering the trough so that the lower end can be immersed in water contained in a respective section. Conveyor means in each section removes ash received in that respective section to a discharge station at the edge of the trough.
