Abstract of the Disclosure A process for preparing novel 2-substituted(or 2-unsubstituted)-5a-aryl-decahydrocyclopent[c]azepines, which is characterized by reducing the corresponding 1- oxo-decahydrocyclopent[c]azepine, optionally followed by alkylation or acylation, is described herein. The novel compounds prepared by this process are useful as analgesics. X-4705
