A decanter centrifuge is defined for separating a heavy phase material from a liquid within a feed mixture. The decanter centrifuge includes a bowl (32) rotatable about its longitudinal axis for separation of the heavy phase material from the liquid feed mixture due to centrifugal force. The bowl typically includes a cylindrical portion and a frusto-conical portion at one end. A solids discharge is provided in the restricted end of the frusto- conical bowl portion. A screw conveyor (20) is coaxially mounted for rotation within the bowl, having a spiraled conveyor flight (18) extending radially outwardly to a position adjacent the inside wall of the bowl. The conveyor is adapted to rotate at a relative speed with respect to the bowl for conveying separated heavy phase material toward the heavy phase discharge. A battle (22) in the form of a disc extends radially outwardly from the conveyor hub (16) and is adapted to project into the separated heavy phase material being conveyed along the bowl wall. A shelf (40) is positioned between the disc and a forward or conveying portion of the conveyor flight. The shelf substantially forms an included angle with a radially extending line that is greater than 45 degrees and preferably has an outwardly facing convex surface.
L'invention concerne une décanteuse-centrifugeuse servant à séparer un matériau de phase lourde, contenu dans un liquide d'un mélange d'alimentation. Cette décanteuse-centrifugeuse comprend une cuve pouvant tourner autour de son axe longitudinal pour séparer, sous l'effet de la force centrifuge, le matériau de phase lourde, contenu dans le mélange d'alimentation liquide. Cette cuve comprend de façon caractéristique une partie cylindrique et une partie tronconique à une extrémité. Une évacuation des matériaux solides est prévue dans l'extrémité rétrécie de la partie tronconique. Un convoyeur à vis est monté coaxialement, de façon à pouvoir tourner dans la cuve, et présente un filet hélicoïdal s'étendant radialement vers l'extérieur en direction d'une position adjacente à la paroi intérieure de la cuve. Ce convoyeur est conçu pour tourner à des vitesses relativement élevées par rapport à la cuve, afin de transporter des matériaux de phase lourde séparés, vers l'évacuation de phase lourde. Une chicane en forme de disque s'étend radialement vers l'extérieur à partir du moyeu du convoyeur et est conçue pour faire saillie dans le matériau solide de phase lourde séparé, en cours de transport le long de la paroi de cuve. Une plaque est positionnée entre le disque et une partie d'avancement ou de transport du filet du convoyeur. Cette plaque forme sensiblement un angle avec une ligne radiale, qui est supérieur à 45 degrés et présente de préférence une surface convexe tournée vers l'extérieur.
