ABSTRACT Apparatus to detect deceleration of a motor vehicle having an auto- matic transmission includes a first signal source operated by release of pres- sure from the accelerator pedal and a second signal source operated by appli- cation of pressure to the brake pedal. A detector device having an output signal is connected in series or parallel with said signal sources. The out- put signal of the detector device may be employed to vary the spark timing of an internal combustion engine.
