DECK-MOUNTED FISHING REEL ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A fishing reel adapted to be mounted on a deck of a boat has a stand provided with a base and side posts. The stand is secured to the boat deck by a detachable mounting arrangement and a shaft is rotatably supported by the side posts of this stand. A spool for a fishing line is secured to the shaft and so is a hand crank for winding the spool. Supported between the posts and beneath the spool for sliding movement towards and away from the axis of rotation of said spool, is a slip brake wedge having a friction surface which is engaged by circumferential edges of the spool. A resilient member interconnects the stand and the brake wedge to urge the brake wedge towards the spool so as to offer resistance to rotation of the spool in one direction. The stand has a rod holder for supporting a fishing rod in a position of use.
