An improvement in the preparation of resorcinol includes the decomposition of m-diisopropylbenzene dihydroperoxlde (m-DHP) to resorcinol and acetone in the presence of an effective amount of a catalyst selected from the group consisting of boron trifluoride, ferric chloride and stannic chloride. Minute quantities of the catalyst. preferably 10 to 50 ppm, are effective to increase the yields of resorcinol.
