There is described a decorative element to be installed on a surface. The decorative element comprises a decorative top face, a lateral edge and an underface for interfacing with the surface. The underface has a longitudinal cut edge portion along at least a portion of the edge. When the decorative element is installed on the surface, the longitudinal cut edge portion and the surface define a longitudinal space within which liquid coating can seep.
