There is disclosed a light-transmitting panel (71) of thermoplastic sheet material which has a relief pattern defined by a plurality of generally coplanar segments (72) which are separated by deep surface relieved areas that are characterized by greater material thickness than the planar segments and smoothly arched surfaces (74) of greater optical quality than the planar segments. The invention also comprises a method for forming the decorative light-transmitting panel (71) by thermoforming a plastic sheet on a mold having a plurality of generally coplanar lands which are separated by deep recesses that receive sagged regions of the thermoplastic sheet material. The sheet material which has been heated to its softening temperature is compressed against the lands to extrude the plastic material into the recess areas, following by cooling and removing the sheet from the mold to obtain the light-transmitting panel.
L'invention concerne un panneau transparent (71) constitué d'une plaque d'un matériau thermoplastique présentant un motif en relief défini par une pluralité de segments sensiblement coplanaires (72) séparés par des parties en relief à surfaces en creux qui sont caractérisées par une épaisseur de matériau plus importante que celle des segments plans et des surfaces légèrement arquées (74) d'une qualité optique meilleure que celle des segments plans. Cette invention concerne également un procédé pour former le panneau décoratif transparent (71) par thermoformage d'une plaque en plastique sur un moule ayant une pluralité de parties hautes sensiblement coplanaires qui sont séparées par des creux profonds qui reçoivent les régions affaissées de la plaque de matériau thermoplastique. La plaque de matériau qui a été chauffée à sa température de ramollissement est pressée contre les parties hautes pour extruder le matériau plastique dans les parties en creux, puis la plaque est refroidie et sortie du moule pour obtenir un panneau.
