DECORATIVE MASONRY PRODUCT AND METHOD ABSTRACT A decorative masonry product including a masonry product and a molded facing laminate bonded to the masonry product. The laminate includes a face layer of pigmented polyester (gel coat) material, a composite material layer supporting the face layer and interposed between the face layer and the masonry product. The composite material layer includes approximately 0.4 % peroxide catalyst, approximately 24.5% unpolymerised polyester resin, approximately 10.8% marble flour of #16 mesh, approximately 16.6% of marble flour of #30 mesh, approximately 17.3% of marble flour of #50 mesh, approximately 9.4% of marble flour of #100 mesh, approximately 13.0% of marble flour of #200 mesh, approximately 5.1% finer marble flour dust, and approximately 2.9% Al3O3.H2O. A method of preparing a decorative building masonry product includes the steps of: applying a release agent to a mold surface, applying a (gel coat) face layer onto the release agent on the mold surface, interposing composite material precursor between the face coat layer and the masonry product; and allowing the interposed composite material precursor to polymerize, thereby preparing the decorative building unit.
