ABSTRACT A device for aligning electronically or electrically the clutch gears of a hoist and or a drive system, it is known to be mounted on the clutch and sense the teeth of the gears using photo-electric cells and or the use of ultra- sound. The photo-optic cells or ultra-sonic transducers are aligned to sense the beginning and the end of the teeth on the drum wheel. In this invention an electronic tone or signal is transmitted from the control box which is also mounted on the clutch arm. The transmission is received by a separate receiver usually located in an area in which it can be heard by the hoistman or the operator. On the receiver unit it also has a tone indicator which is a light that will also tell the hoistman when the gears are aligned or not aligned. A separate power source i.e. a battery, may also be mounted on the clutch arm or power may be derived from an external source.
