DEFIBRILLATOR Abstract of the Disclosure An improved automatic defibrillator operable from an internal rechargable battery power source or from an A.C. line when the battery is discharged utilizes a high efficiency flyback type power supply for charging the energy storage capacitor. The capacitor charging power supply employs an isolated output thereby allowing the defibrillator electrodes to be switched between the storage capacitor and an electro- cardiogram unit by the discharge relay and avoiding the need for a separate relay or isolating impedance to isolate the preamplifier of the electrocardiogram unit from the defibril- lator circuit. Finally automatic circuitry is employed to control the battery power supply so that the number of watt seconds (Joules) of energy delivered by the defibrillator may be easily selected by a single selector switch, and the charging of the capacitor terminated when the energy necessary to deliver the amount of energy selected has been stored.
