Abstract Deflection circuit for a television receiver using symmetrical deflection. For the symmetrical deflection, it is necessary to generate a step shaped deflection field for the vertical deflection because the lines described from the left to the right edge of the picture and from the right to the left edge of the picture would otherwise diverge. A step shaped vertical deflection field of such type has high frequency components and cannot be directly generated by conventional vertical deflection coils because of their high inductance. It is the object to generate a fault free step shaped vertical deflection field without any changes to the vertical deflection coil being necessary. A vertical auxiliary deflection coil (14) having a substantially lower inductance of some µH relative to the vertical deflection coil (13) is provided for a line frequency auxiliary deflection current (IVK1) which converts the saw toothed deflection field (FV) into a step shaped deflection field (FVT). Especially for HiFi and HDTV television receivers using symmetrical deflection. Fig. 1
