A deflector (10) for mounting at a rear of a vehicle (12), the deflector (10) being arranged, in operation, to project sidewards of the vehicle (12) as one or more ducts (22, 26, 28) to direct air from along a side (14) of the vehicle (12) through a region (30) behind the vehicle (12) and allow continuous airflow through the region (30) and behind the vehicle (12) to thereby reduce vacuum effect, the deflector (10) being adapted to move to a retracted condition, when not in use, to allow unobstructed opening of a rear door of the vehicle (12). Similarly a method of reducing drag of a moving vehicle by mounting of a deflector to the vehicle is disclosed.

L'invention concerne un déflecteur (10) à monter à l'arrière d'un véhicule (12), ce déflecteur (10) étant disposé, lors de son fonctionnement, de manière à ressortir latéralement par rapport au véhicule (12) comme au moins un conduit (22, 26, 28) en vue de diriger de l'air provenant du long d'un côté (14) du véhicule (12) à travers une région (30) située à l'arrière du véhicule (12) et à permettre un écoulement continu d'air à travers cette région (30) et à l'arrière du véhicule (12), ce qui permet de diminuer l'effet de vide. Ledit déflecteur (10) est conçu pour se déplacer à une position rétractée, lorsqu'il n'est pas en état d'utilisation, afin de permettre l'ouverture libre d'une porte arrière du véhicule (12). Similairement, cette invention concerne un procédé de diminution de la résistance d'un véhicule mobile par montage d'un déflecteur au véhicule.
