ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Rapeseed and mustard seed (Brassica species) are treated to remove at least the major part of the oil. A slurry of the meal solids in finely divided form, in a non- aqueous solvent which does not dissolve protein, is sub- jected to a gravity or centrifugal liquid separation to separate flour slurry as overflow and hull slurry as under- flow. This separation is carried out under substantially anhydrous conditions. The flour and hulls are recovered separately and the solvent recycled (further oil can be recovered from this solvent). The flour contains about 50% protein and can be further treated, e.g. for thioglu- coside removal, if desired.
