Abstract A deinking method for a waste paper mixture of magazines and newspapers by flotation, washing and a combined procedure thereof, having an excellent ability to eliminate ink, and whereby a deinked pulp having a high whiteness and a high b value and little contamination with unliberated ink spots is obtained that can provide a less slippery paper, without the formation of scales and the occurrence of sticky troubles, in the papermaking step when the deinked pulp is blended with a vergin pulp at a ratio of 20% or more, can be obtained, which comprises adjusting the pulp concentration in the system in the pulping step to 10 to 32% by weight, adding during said pulping step a specific nonionic surfactant and adding at any time during said deinking method a higher fatty acid and the like, wherein the weight ratio of the total amount of the nonionic surfactant to be used in said deinking method to that of the higher fatty acid and the like to be used in said deinking method is from 24/76 to 8/92.
