A sympatholytic cardiovascular agent delivered by a drug delivery pump to a central nervous system site to alleviate symptoms and otherwise treat heart failure (HF) and pathologies associated with HF. The drug delivery pump can be external or implantable infusion pump (IIP) coupled with a drug infusion catheter extending to the site. A patient activator can command delivery of a dosage and/or an implantable heart monitor (IHM) coupled with a sensor can detect physiologic parameters associated with HF (or pathologies associated with HF) and trigger dosage delivery. The IIP and IHM can be combined into a single implantable medical device (IMD) or can constitute separate IMDs that communicate by any of known communication mechanisms. The sympatholytic cardiovascular agent is one of the group consisting of an alpha-adrenergic agonist and an alpha2-adrenergic agonist, e.g., clonidine, p-aminoclonidine, guanabenz, lidamidine, tizanidine, moxonidine, methyldopa, xylazine, guanfacine, detomidine, medetomidine, and dexmedetomidine.
L'invention concerne un agent cardio-vasculaire sympatholytique administré par une pompe d'administration de médicament à un système nerveux central, afin d'atténuer les symptômes et, de ce fait, de traiter une insuffisance cardiaque et les pathologies associées. Ladite pompe d'administration de médicament peut être externe ou constituer une pompe à perfusion implantable couplée à un cathéter de perfusion de médicament s'étendant jusqu'au site. Un dispositif d'activation de patient peut commander l'administration d'un dosage et/ou un dispositif de surveillance cardiaque implantable couplé à un détecteur permet de détecter des paramètres physiologiques liés à l'insuffisance cardiaque (ou des pathologies liées à ladite insuffisance) et de déclencher l'administration du dosage. Ladite pompe à perfusion implantable et ledit dispositif de surveillance cardiaque implantable peuvent être combinés en un seul dispositif médical implantable ou ils peuvent constituer des dispositifs médicaux implantables séparés communiquant au moyen de systèmes de communication connus. L'agent cardio-vasculaire sympatholytique fait partie du groupe comprenant un agoniste alpha-adrénergique et un agoniste alpha2-adrénergique, par exemple, clonidine, p-aminoclonidine, guanabenz, lidamidine, tizanidine, moxonidine, méthyldopa, xylazine, guanfacine, détomidine, médétomidine, et dexmédétomidine.
