The invention relates to delivery of short messages to mobile stations and particularly to delivery of short messages in mobility-supporting packet radio networks that use a mobile communications network as an access network, to a dual-mode mobile station in a situation where the mobile station is not reachable in the packet radio network. The object of the invention is to minimize unnecessary signalling. The invention is based on the fact that parameters controlling the network elements are inserted into the signalling messages and a flag indicating the state of the mobile station is inserted into the home location register. In the method and radio network of the invention, the signalling messages may contain parameters by means of which 1) delivery of a short message through the secondary network is prevented, 2) information on the fact that an attempt was made to reach the mobile station but the attempt was not successful is sent to the node of the secondary network, 3) the node of the secondary network is prevented from informing the home location register of the mobile station of the attach of the mobile station to the network, 4) information is sent to the home location register on the fact that the mobile station cannot be reached through the primary network, and 5) information is sent to the gateway mobile switching center for short message service on the fact that the mobile station can be reached through the primary network even though the short message was delivered through the secondary network.
L'invention concerne d'une part la remise de messages courts à des stations mobiles et en particulier la remise de messages courts dans des réseaux radiotéléphoniques par paquets prenant en charge des stations mobiles, réseaux qui utilisent un réseau de télécommunications mobile comme réseau d'accès. D'autre part, l'invention concerne une station mobile bivalente se trouvant dans une situation dans laquelle on ne peut pas joindre la station mobile dans le réseau radiotéléphonique par paquets. L'objet de l'invention est de réduire la signalisation inutile. L'invention est basée sur l'introduction de paramètres, commandant les éléments du réseau, dans les messages de signalisation ainsi que sur l'introduction d'un drapeau, indiquant l'état de la station mobile, dans la mémoire des positions des utilisateurs permanents. Selon le procédé et le réseau radiotéléphonique selon l'invention, les messages de signalisation peuvent contenir des paramètres grâce auxquels 1) on empêche la remise d'un message court par l'intermédiaire du réseau secondaire, 2) des informations sont envoyées au noeud du réseau secondaire au sujet d'une tentative de joindre la station mobile qui a été effectuée mais qui a échoué, 3) le noeud du réseau secondaire ne peut pas informer la mémoire des positions des utilisateurs permanents de la station mobile de la connexion de la station mobile au réseau, 4) des informations sont envoyées à la mémoire des positions des utilisateurs permanents au sujet de l'impossibilité de joindre la station mobile par l'intermédiaire du réseau primaire, et 5) des informations sont envoyées au centre de commutation mobile du noeud de transit de messages courts, informations relatives à l'impossibilité de joindre la station mobile par l'intermédiaire du réseau primaire même si le message court a été remis par l'intermédiaire du réseau secondaire.
