A demolition hammer (10) intended for attachment to a backhoe (11) or the like. The demolition hammer (10) includes an adapter bracket (31) which connects to the arm (15) of a backhoe (11) in place of the conventional bucket of the backhoe, and a hammer head (42) spaced apart from the adapter bracket (31) by a hammer spring arm (40) cantilevered or pivotably mounted with respect to the adapter bracket (31). Repeated operation of the backhoe hydraulic cylinder which normally pivots the bucket will instead move the hammer (10) into repetitive impacts with the concrete (77) or other work surface undergoing demolition. The flexibility of the hammer spring (40) adds a whipping action which increases the effective impact of such movement.
