ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A carbonaceous feedstock, obtained from either a petroleum or coal source, is hydrodenitrified by the use of a supported sulfided catalyst containing nickel, molyb- denum and iron, with the molybdenum being present in an amount of from about 10% to about 20%, by weight, calcu- lated as MoO3, based on total weight of catalyst, the iron to molybdenum atomic ratio being from about 0.05 to about 0.5, and the nickel to molybdenum atomic ratio being from about 0.2 to about 0.6. The process effect- ively denitrifies high nitrogen content feeds
