A B S T R A C T Denitrosation of N-nitrosoamines is effected by reacting the nitrosoamine with a ketone or aldehyde in the presence of a strong acid, for example with acetone or acetaldehyde in the presence of hydrohcloric acid. The process has a number of advantages over the use of conventional denitrosat- ing agents such as sulfamic acid, e.g. in being less expensive and easier to operate, less exothermic and often in involving less toxic materials. Further- more, less acid is required, thus less base for neutralising the product is required.
