ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This specification relates to a counter-flow sedimentation separator and process which is designed to separate mixed particulate materials on either side of a preset cutoff density and to a method of separating such materials. The separator has been designed to highgrade gold, zinc, tin, lead, barite and gold tailings, but can be used to perform a similar function with other materials given an adequate density difference between the materials to be separated. It employs a series ofcounterflow separation units used in conjunction with screening operations in such a way as to effect density separations. This process is specially provided with new and inventive embodiments which increase systems efficiency and density selectivity, while decreasing water and energy requirements. 26
