ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A dental floss holder and applicator includes a tooth- brush-shaped handle with a tubular casing mounted on the bottom front thereof and a pair of forwardly extending arms on the top end thereof for supporting dental floss in a usable position. The floss is on a spool removably mounted in the casing, and is dispensed through a hole in the casing to a winding mechanism. The winding mechanism which also may be removably mounted in the casing, includes a shaft extending through a bifurcated plug in the top end of the casing, a drive pulley on one end of the shaft for receiving floss from the casing, a take-up pulley on the other end of the shaft, and a drive disc on the shaft beside the drive pulley. A toothed wheel on the shaft in the plug is engaged by a pawl for permitting rotation of the shaft, pulleys and drive wheel in one direction only.
