The present invention is directed to a dentifrice composition containing a bactericide selected from the group consisting of biguanido bactericides and N-alkyldiaminoethylglycine, a polyoxyethylene- polyoxypropylene block copolymer surfactant and an N-higher acylamino acid or its salt. The dentifrice composition maintains the stability of the bactericidal activities of the bactericide added and, hence, is effective in the inhibition of the formation of dental plaque and the prevention of gingivitis.
