ABSTRACT A dentifrice gel comprising from 5 to 60% sodium bicarbonate in an aqueous carrier incorporating from 15 to 60% by weight of a humectant such as glycerin and/or sorbitol. Secondary abrasives such as hydrous silica gels, alkali metal phosphates, and complex aluminosilicates may also be incorporated in the gel in amounts of from 0 to 20% thereof without impairing the optical translucence thereof. Thickening agents, surfactants, flavoring agents, sweeteners, fluoridating agents, and other conventional adjuvants may also be included in the gel formulation. -21-
