- 1 - ABSTRACT A deoxygenation process, particularly for anaerobic jars, comprises reacting together hydrogen and oxygen over a catalyst comprising Pd, Pt, Rh and/or Ir on a carbonaceous support which may be fibrous or granular. A preferred support is carbon cloth, which does not produce fines and on approx. 2.5 cm2 of which only 1-6mg Pd provides an effective catalyst for use in a jar. Such a catalyst may be regarded as disposable. A catalyst comprising a catalytic metal on a fibrous carbon support, particularly cloth, is novel per se.
