The invention relates to a method for depolymerizing starch comprising mixing a starch material with an ionic liquid solvent to dissolve the starch, and then treating the dissolved starch by agitating at a temperature and for a period for time to effect depolymerization of the starch into desired depolymerization products.

L'invention concerne un procédé qui permet de dépolymériser l'amidon et qui consiste à mélanger une matière amylacée avec un solvant liquide ionique afin de dissoudre l'amidon, puis de traiter l'amidon ainsi dissous en agitant à une température et pendant une période suffisantes pour accomplir la dépolymérisation de l'amidon en des produits de dépolymérisation voulus.
