18 Abstract A deposit safe is provided having a safe and an inlet chute into the safe. An electronic eye is disposed on the chute for detecting the deposit of articles into the safe. Upon detecting an article deposited into the safe, a buzzer will sound for a short period of time advising the depositor that the electronic time and date stamp is enabled for providing a receipt of the time and date that the deposit was made. The time and date stamp is activated for a pre-determined time period only when the electronic eye detects a deposit. The time and date stamp is then deactivated upon expiry of the time period or upon stamping of the current time and date. A counter may optionally be provided for counting the number of deposits. As well, means are provided for disabling the electronic eye, time and date stamp and counter during servicing of the safe.
