A plunge type router (10) including an arrangement for locking the depth of cut adjustment which does not require the operator to release the grip on the router handle (34). The locking mechanism is activated by an actuator arm (60) mounted for pivoting movement within the handle (34). Pivoting of the actuator arm (60) causes a stop plug (54) to be pressed against a guide (26) displaceably coupling the router base plate (20) to the router motor housing (12).
