X and X' which may be identical or different, re- present hydrogen, a cation or an ester or an easily hydrolysable or metabolically labile and pharma- ceutically acceptable hemiacetate. . B designates a group Image . or a pyridinium group Image in which R4 represents an hydroxy, an -COOH group or a -CO-NH2 group. This invention also provides a method of producing these compounds, which have a remarkable effect on gram-negative bacteria.
