ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Dihydropyridine derivatives of the formula (I) and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof of the formula: Image in which R1 and R2 are the same or different and each hydrogen; alkyl of 1 to 10 carbon atoms, alkenyl of 2 to 10 carbon atoms, alkynyl of 2 to 10 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 3 to 7 carbon atoms, aryl of 6 to 10 carbon atoms, arylalkyl of 7 to 9 carbon atoms, or cycloalkyl-lower alkyl of 3 to 7 carbon atoms in the cycloalkyl moiety, unsubstituted or substituted by halogen or alkoxy of 1 to 4 carbon atoms; or tetra-hydrofurfuryl unsubstituted or substituted by alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms; R3 is lower alkyl; R4 is hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 10 carbon atoms, alkenyl of 2 to 10 carbon atoms, alkynl of 2 to 10 carbon atoms, cycloalkyl of 3 to 7 carbon atoms, cycloalkenyl of 3 to 7 carbon atoms, aryl of 6 to carbon atoms, or cycloalkyl-lower alkyl or cycloalkenyl-lower alkyl of 3 to 7 carbon atoms in the cycloalkyl or cycloalkenyl moiety, unsubstituted or substituted by alkoxy of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, aryloxy of 6 to 10 carbon atoms in the aryl moiety, aralkyloxy of 6 to 10 carbon atoms in the aralkyl moiety, amino, mono- or di-lower alkylamino, alkylthio of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, mono- or di-lower alkylamino-lower alkyl, alkyl-thioalkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms in each alkyl moiety, pyridyl, or pyridyl-lower alkyl; tetrahydrofurfuryl unsubstituted or substituted by alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms; Image in which X is N or 0, R8 is lower alkyl or lower alkenyl when X is N and is not present when X is 0, R9 is hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms, phenyl, or Image in which R8 and X are as above defined, 1 is an integer of O to 2, and m is an integer of 1 to 4: or Image in which 1 is as defined above and n is an integer of O to 2; R5 is lower alkyl; and R6 and R7 are the same or different and are each nitro, cyano, trifluoromethyl, halogen, azido, alkoxycarbonyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms in the alkoxy moiety, aminocarbonyl, sulfamyl, alkylsulfonyl of 1 to 3 carbon atoms in the alkyl moiety or difluoromethoxy or one of R6 and R7 is hydrogen and the other is as above defined, are useful for their vasodilating and hypotensive effects.
