A desalination apparatus, and a method of using same, comprising a porous inorganic molecular sieve membrane including a retentate side and a permeate side and a salty water inlet to direct salty water to the retentate side of the porous inorganic membrane wherein water passing through the membrane, from the retentate side to the permeate side, is removed as a vapour from the permeate side of the membrane to maintain the permeate side of the membrane at a low water vapour pressure. The present membranes allow the desalination of water at relatively high flux rates without the need for large applied pressures.
L'invention concerne un appareil de désalinisation et un procédé destiné à utiliser celui-ci, ledit appareil de désalinisation comprenant une membrane à tamis moléculaire inorganique poreuse incluant un côté rétentat, un côté perméat et une entrée d'eau salée, destinée à diriger l'eau salée vers le côté rétentat de la membrane poreuse inorganique. Dans ledit appareil, l'eau qui traverse la membrane, depuis le côté rétentat vers le côté perméat, est éliminée sous forme de vapeur du côté perméat de la membrane afin de maintenir le côté perméat de la membrane sous une faible pression d'eau. Les présentes membranes permettent d'effectuer une désalinisation de l'eau avec des vitesses d'écoulement relativement élevées et sans avoir besoin d'appliquer des pressions élevées.
