A portable descent apparatus (1) for use in effecting the controlled descent of a body from an elevated location, for example a multi-storey building, comprises in combination a support frame (2) having a substantially planar base (3) and upright supporting end brackets (4,5), a fixed shaft (6) extending between said end brackets, a rotatable drum (7) coaxially mounted on said shaft and having means for attachment of one end of a flexible cable (17) thereto, the drum (7) having fixed to one end thereof a manually or remotely controllable calliper-operated disc brake assembly and to the other end thereof a gear driven descent speed controller comprising a toothed annular member (13) meshing with a pinion (19) driving a centrifugal brake assembly (12), the flexible cable (17) having one end attached to said drum and the other end (16) thereof having anchoring means for attaching the cable to a fixed position (18), and a first handle means (15) attached to the support frame (2) adjacent to said disc brake assembly and provided with means (11) for manually or remotely controlling the braking effect of the disc brake assembly, and a second handle means (14) attached to the support frame (2) adjacent to said descent speed controller, the arrangement being such that in use the apparatus may be held using the two handle means (14,15) with the planar base (3) positioned against the descending body.
L'invention concerne un dispositif de descente portatif (1) utilis~ pour faire descendre sous contrÙle un corps d'un endroit ~lev~, par exemple un b~timent ~ plusieurs ~tages. Ce dispositif de descente comprend un cadre de support (2) dot~ d'une base sensiblement planaire (3) ainsi que de traverses d'extr~mit~ verticales de support (4,5) ; une tige fixe (6) s'~tendant entre lesdites traverses d'extr~mit~ ; et un tambour rotatif (7) mont~ coaxial sur ladite tige fixe et dot~ de moyens qui permettent d'y fixer l'extr~mit~ d'un c~ble souple (17). Un ensemble frein ~ disque de descente ~ entra¹nement par ~trier, pouvant Útre command~ manuellement ou ~ distance, est fix~ ~ une premire extr~mit~ du tambour (7). Une commande de vitesse de descente ~ entra¹nement ~ engrenages, qui pr~sente un ~l~ment annulaire dent~ (13) venant en prise avec un pignon (19) menant un ensemble de freinage centrifuge (12), est fix~e ~ son autre extr~mit~. Une extr~mit~ du c~ble souple (17) est reli~e au tambour alors que l'autre extr~mit~ (16) comporte des moyens d'ancrage qui permettent d'attacher (18) le c~ble. De plus, ce dispositif comprend une premire poign~e (15) mont~e sur le cadre de support (2), ~ proximit~ dudit ensemble frein ~ disque (11), qui permet de commander manuellement ou ~ distance l'effet de freinage de l'ensemble frein ~ disque, ainsi qu'une seconde poign~e (14) mont~e sur le cadre de support (2), ~ proximit~ de ladite commande de vitesse de descente. La disposition de ces composants est telle que ce dispositif peut Útre port~ par les deux poign~es (14,15), avec la base planaire (3) orient~e face au corps ~ descendre.
