DESENSITIZED RED PHOSPHORUS ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Desensitized pulverulent red phosphorus obtained by treating red phosphorus with a organic desensitizer which is liquid, inactive with respect to red phosphorus and has a minor vapor pressure at room temperature and atmospheric pressure, is comprised of 98 to 99.95 mass % red phosphorus having a particle size of up to about 2 mm and of 0.05 up to less than 2 mass % organic compound emulsifiable in water. The densitized phosphorus is made by introducing an aqueous emulsion of an organic desensitizer into an aqueous suspension of red phosphorus consisting of particles with a size of up to about 2 mm so as to have less than 2 to 0.05 mass parts organic desensitizer in more than 98 up to 99.95 mass parts red phsophorus; next, a pH within the range 5 to 9 is established and the mixture is stirred over a period of 0.5 to 3 hours at a temperature of 20 to 90°C; the desensitized red phosphorus is ultimately filtered and dried at elevated temperature.
