A system for facilitating contact lens design comprises an input unit for input of design parameters, and a processing unit for calculating a post-lens pressure profile based on the design parameters. The processing unit is arranged, in use, to perform a finite model calculation allowing for large deflection and non-linear geometry effects in the deformation of a model lens shape. Preferably the finite element model calculation utilises solid elements of modelling the lens shape. A contact comprising a high Young~s modulus material such as silicone hydrogel can be designed to have a maximum corneal or limbal post-lens pressure valve of less than 250 Pa.

L'invention concerne un système permettant de faciliter la conception de lentilles de contact, comprenant une unité de saisie permettant d'entrer des paramètres de conception et une unité de traitement permettant de calculer un profil de pression d'une lentille de contact sur la base des paramètres de conception entrés. Cette unité de traitement est conçue pour calculer un modèle fini permettant d'obtenir des effets importants de déviation et de géométrie non linéaire dans la déformation de la forme d'un modèle de lentille de contact. De préférence, le calcul du modèle d'élément fini utilise des éléments solides pour la modélisation de la forme de la lentille de contact. L'invention concerne également la conception d'une lentille de contact composée d'un matériau possédant un module d'élasticité élevé, tel qu'un hydrogel de silicone, conçue pour avoir une valeur de pression cornéenne ou limbique maximale inférieure à 250 Pa.
