SATO-190 DESK-TOP THERMAL PRINTER ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A desk-top and/or hand held thermal printer has a flat bottom surface for resting on a flat sur- face; retaining means for supporting a wound roll of backing sheet to which discrete detachable labels are adhered and transfer means, which include a stepping motor and a sheet drive roller for guiding the labels through a thermal printing device where.a bar code or the like is thermally printed on the thermosensitive labels; label peeling means for peeling the labels from the backing sheet; label affixing means for affixing the peeled-off labels on objects; data input means for example a keyboard or a computer input terminal or the like; data display means; and controller for control- ling the entire printer apparatus. The printer can be operated in a first mode in which the printer prints the labels and peels them off the backing sheet or in a second mode in which the labels are printed and fed from the printer still on the backing sheet.
