ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB's) are dechlorinated and rendered environmentally harmless by reaction with preformed sodium naphthalenide in a suitable ether-type solvent. The reaction proceeds rapidly at ambient temperature and effects substantially complete removal of chlorine from the PCB's.
