ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Improved results in reducing the sulfur content of sulfur-containing petroleum hydrocarbons are obtained by sub- jecting selected hydrocarbon fractions containing sulfur to low pressure hydrogenation in contact with a cobalt-molybdenum- phosphorus, nickel-molybdenum-phosphorus, or cobalt-nickel- molybdenum-phosphorus catalysts under specified conditions.
