A coal gas stream containing H2S and COS is desulphurised by passing it radially into a vessel (300), wherein the coal gas stream is entrained into a high momentum turbulent jet of gaseous zinc (308) passing downwardly through the vessel (300). The resultant desulphurised gas stream and solid zinc sulphide are separated in a hot gas cyclone (320). Any excess gaseous zinc is solidified by passing through a waste heat boiler (322) and is separated from the desulphurised gas stream by hot gas filtration.

On procède à la désulfuration d'un flux de gaz de houille renfermant H¿2?S et COS en faisant passer celui-ci radialement dans une cuve (300). Ce flux de gaz de houille est entraîné dans un jet turbulent à énergie cinétique élevée, de zinc gazeux (308) descendant dans la cuve (300). Le flux de gaz désulfuré obtenu et le sulfure de zinc solide sont séparés dans un cyclone (320) à gaz chaud. Tout excès de zinc gazeux est solidifié en passant dans une chaudière chauffée par la chaleur perdue (322), et est séparé du flux de gaz désulfuré par filtration du gaz chaud.
