B 34051 Abstract A process for the desulphurisation of a feedstock, comprising contacting the feedstock with a regenerable sorbent to give a desulphurised stream. The sorbent is regenerated by heating, followed by cooling. Cooling is effected by contacting the sorbent with a feedstock, and during at least the initial part of the cooling, at least part of the effluent from the sorbent is contacted with at least non-regenerable particulate sorbent. The desired desulphurised product comprises the effluent from the particulate sorbent, together with any desulphurised effluent from the regenerable sorbent that has bypassed the particulate sorbent. In an alternative process, the regenerable sorbent may be replaced by a membrane separation unit giving a desulphurised stream and a sulphur laden stream, which sulphur laden stream is combusted to effect heating of the desulphurised stream before the desulphurised stream passes through the particulate sorbent. A more effective method of desulphurisation is provided.
