A grass dethatcher for detachably mounting to a horizontal rotating lawn mower. The dethatcher includes a pair of side supports that are spaced-apart from each other and parallel to each other and are detachably mounted to the horizontal rotating lawn mower at a preset position forwardly only of the horizontal rotating lawn mower and below the blades of the horizontal rotating lawn mower, a single cross bar that is rigid and adjustably mounted transversely in the pair of side supports and adjustable in the direction of travel of the horizontal rotating lawn mower, and a plurality of spring wire tines that are wound around the single cross bar in such a manner so as to have maximum spring resiliency and maximum spring loading so as to allow them to flex and regain their original shapes once past an encountered obstruction and so as to allow then to bring up thatch when the horizontal rotating lawn mower is backing up and wound around the single cross bar in such a manner so as to be biased against the single cross bar so as to allow them to be self-keeping around the single cross bar.
