ABSTRACT The present application discloses detaping appara- tus, adapted for operation upon taped components, having a body and at least one lead, the leads of the respective com- ponents being adhered, at substantially regular intervals, to at least one strip of tape. The apparatus comprises first and second rotatable index wheels, the first index wheel being disposed for rotation about a first axis of rota- tion. A second index wheel is disposed for rotation about a second axis of rotation, which is at a predetermined angle with respect to said first axis. Means are provided for rotating the index wheels in synchronism, whereby, as they rotate through a cycle about their respective axes, the axial distance between the index wheels varies. The first and second rotatable index wheels are disposed to engage each component lead in sequence at a predetermined point in their cycle between the tape and the component body, the distance between said index wheels thereafter increasing to strip the tape from the lead.
