The invention is a methods and apparatus for detecting a composition of an audience of an information presentation device. One method captures (18) images of the audience; determines (20) a number of people within the images and prompts (24) the audience to identify its members if a change (22) in the number of people in the audience is visually detected. This method voids both under-sampling of the audience and excessive prompting of the audience by only requesting entry of identification data when an audience change occurs. The invention also determines the number of people in an image or series of images.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un système qui permettent de détecter une composition d'une audience d'un dispositif de présentation d'informations. Le procédé consiste à: capturer (18) des images de l'audience; déterminer (20) un nombre de personnes apparaissant dans les images; et inviter (24) l'audience à identifier ses membres lorsqu'un changement du nombre de personnes présentes dans l'audience est détecté de façon visible. Le procédé de l'invention rend inutile tant le sous-échantillonnage de l'audience qu'une invite excessive de l'audience par la seule invitation à entrer des données d'identification lorsqu'un changement d'audience survient. Le procédé de l'invention permet également de déterminer le nombre de personnes présentes dans une image ou une série d'images.
