A method is provided for detecting, measuring or controlling particles and/or electromagnetic radiation, comprising providing a deformable material containing a deformable aperture defining a path for particles or radiation, adjusting the deformable aperture to a prescribed geometry and/or size by deforming the deformable material to change at least one of the parameters of the path defined by the deformable aperture, and causing the particle or radiation to be detected, measured or controlled to enter the deformable aperture. The method includes the step of monitoring the geometry and/or size of the deformable aperture and controlling the adjustment of the size of the deformable aperture in response to such monitoring. The required apparatus is easily fabricated from inexpensive materials. Furthermore the deformable aperture can be tuned to the appropriate geometry post fabrication, and the ability to adjust the aperture geometry renders it capable of discriminating a plurality of differently sized particles.
L~invention concerne un procédé de détection, de mesure ou de modulation de particules et/ou d~un rayonnement électromagnétique, comprenant les étapes consistant à mettre à disposition un matériau déformable comportant une ouverture déformable définissant un trajet pour des particules ou un rayonnement, à régler l~ouverture déformable pour lui donner une géométrie et/ou une taille prescrite en déformant le matériau déformable de façon à modifier au moins un des paramètres du trajet défini par l~ouverture déformable, et à réaliser la détection, la mesure ou la modulation des particules ou du rayonnement pour les faire pénétrer dans l~ouverture déformable. Le procédé comporte l~étape consistant à contrôler la géométrie et/ou la taille de l~ouverture déformable et à moduler le réglage de la taille de l~ouverture déformable en fonction de ce contrôle. L~appareil requis pour mettre en AEuvre le procédé de l~invention est aisément fabriqué à partir de matériaux bon marché. Il est par ailleurs possible d~ajuster l~ouverture déformable après la fabrication afin de lui donner la géométrie appropriée, et de lui permettre ainsi de faire la distinction entre une pluralité de particules de tailles différentes.
