A detecting method for dairy cattle comprises the steps of: automatically measuring lying and standing times for a milking animal by a sensor (11); automatically comparing the measured lying and standing times for said milking animal with reference values of lying and standing times; and automatically establishing whether said milking animal is in heat or not based on said comparison. The automatic sensor may also be used for measuring a health parameter of the milking animal.

L~invention concerne un procédé de détection destiné aux vaches laitières qui comprend les étapes suivantes : la mesure automatique par un capteur (11) du temps qu~un animal en lactation a passé allongé et debout ; la comparaison automatique des mesures concernant le temps passé allongé et debout par ledit animal en lactation avec des valeurs de référence pour le temps passé allongé et debout ; et la détermination automatique, fondée sur ladite comparaison, de l~état dudit animal en lactation, à savoir s~il est en chaleur ou non. Le capteur automatique peut également servir pour mesurer le paramètre de santé de l~animal en lactation.
