A system for the detection of ligands comprising at least one receptor and an amplification mechanism coupled to the receptor wherein an amplified signal is produced as a result of receptor binding a ligand. Examples of suitable amplification mechanisms include antibody-embedded liquid crystalline materials; use of alpha-2-macroglobulin to encage an enzyme, whereby the enzyme is separated from its substrate by a receptor; and a receptor engineered to inhibit the active site of an enzyme only in the absence of a ligand. Also provided are methods for the automatic detection of ligands.

L'invention concerne un système pour la détection de ligands, comprenant au moins un récepteur et un mécanisme d'amplification couplé au récepteur, un signal amplifié étant produit par la fixation d'un ligand par le récepteur. Les mécanismes d'amplification appropriés peuvent être, entre autres, des matériaux cristallins liquides intégrés à un anticorps ; l'utilisation d'alpha-2-macroglobuline pour encager un enzyme, lequel est séparé de son substrat par un récepteur ; et un récepteur manipulé de sorte qu'il inhibe le site actif de l'enzyme seulement en l'absence d'un ligand. L'invention porte aussi sur des méthodes de détection automatique de ligands.
