This method and apparatus detect the potential for corrosion of pipes having walls fabricated out of conductive material (14) embedded in non-conductive material, the conductive material (14) being sandwiched between inner (10) and outer (12) linings, due to contact between a conductive medium foreign to the pipe and the conductive material (14) embedded within the pipe wall. The electric potential between the foreign medium and the pipe conductive material (14) is determined. The stability of the potential is then ascertained. If the potential does not vary beyond a predetermined range over a period of time, the potential is deemed stable and is indicative of electrical contact between the foreign medium and the conductive material (14) within the pipe, fostering corrosion. An unstable voltage indicates lack of electrical contact.
La présente invention concerne un procédé et un appareil qui assurent la détection du potentiel de corrosion de tuyaux dont les parois sont fabriquées à partir d'une matière conductrice (14) encastrée à l'intérieur d'une matière non conductrice, ladite matière conductrice (14) étant prise en sandwich entre les revêtements interne (10) et externe (12). Ce potentiel de corrosion provient du contact entre un support conducteur éloigné du tuyau et la matière conductrice (14) encastrée à l'intérieur de la paroi du tuyau. Le potentiel électrique existant entre le support éloigné et la matière conductrice du tuyau (14) est déterminé, puis la stabilité de ce potentiel est vérifiée. Si le potentiel ne varie pas au-delà d'une gamme prédéterminée de valeurs pendant une période donnée, le potentiel est estimé stable et est indicateur de contact électrique entre le support éloigné et la matière conductrice (14) du tuyau, ce qui favorise la corrosion. Une tension instable indique un manque de contact électrique.
