The expression of a steroid receptor from circulating carcinoma cells in a blood sample is detected by isolating the carcinoma cells from the blood sample, making an extract from the isolated carcinoma cells and then performing on the extract a sensitive immunoassay capable of detecting the carcinoma cell-associated steroid receptor. A positive result indicates the presence of the steroid receptor in the carcinoma cells. This method can be used to identify cancer patients who are likely to benefit from treatment with an endocrine therapeutic agent.

L'expression d'un récepteur stéroïdien provenant de cellules carcinomateuses circulantes dans un échantillon sanguin est détectée en isolant les cellules carcinomateuses de l'échantillon sanguin pour en faire un extrait des cellules carcinomateuses isolées et effectuer ensuite des dosages immunologiques de haute précision sur l'extrait capables de détecter le récepteur stéroïdien associé à une cellule carcinomateuse. Un résultat positif indique la présence du récepteur stéroïdien dans les cellules carcinomateuses. Ce procédé peut être utilisé pour identifier les patients cancéreux qui sont susceptibles de tirer des bienfaits d'un traitement contenant un agent thérapeutique endocrinien.
