For purposes of determining the function of a protein, an automated system captures images of cells, each cell located in a predetermined well. After a given cell is exposed to a protein of interest, the system measures the responses of the cell over time, evaluating a variety of cellular parameters. Analytical software within the system evaluates data generated by these measurements, at single-cell resolution. By comparing with various controls the data thus obtained, the system illuminates the function of a protein with respect to one or more disease models, independent of information regarding the structure, chemistry or underlying genomics of the protein.

Selon cette invention, pour déterminer la fonction d'une protéine, un système automatisé capture des images de cellules, chacune des cellules se trouvant dans un puits prédéterminé. Une fois qu'une cellule donnée a été exposée à une protéine d'intérêt, le système mesure les réponses de la cellule dans le temps, ce qui permet d'évaluer une série de paramètres cellulaires. Un logiciel analytique situé dans le système évalue les données générées par ces mesures, à une résolution monocellulaire. La comparaison des données ainsi obtenues avec divers témoins permet au système de mettre en évidence la fonction d'une protéine par rapport à un ou plusieurs modèles de maladies, indépendamment des données relatives à la structure, la chimie ou la génomique sous-jacente de la protéine.
